News Alert (2008-10-28)
News page has been updated.
synapse
synapse is a small Jabber/XMPP server, written in Ruby. Its goal is to simplify running such a service by making it "shellable" in hopes of bringing XMPP to the end users currently on legacy networks. By making XMPP easier to run, it is my hope that it will become more popular and less complex.
All aspects of synapse have been designed with the single goal of ease-of-use. As a result, there's only one simple configuration file, and the core server, which implements XMPP Core and XMPP IM, requires only a single process.
From the beginning, synapse was designed to be a shellable Jabber/XMPP server. At the time I designed it, I wasn't aware of any other implementations that could do this, but I was just flat out wrong.
I hope that by making XMPP easier to run, more people will begin to use it, and we can finally abandon the days of legacy networks like AIM, MSN, ICQ, and IRC.

Enjoy!
